How sport brings people together, builds resilience and teaches us to manage risk.
For an insurance broker, working with risk is part of the profession: it requires the ability to assess the situation, understand one’s capabilities and be prepared for the unexpected. The same principles apply in sport, particularly when tackling a challenging cross-country course. Last weekend, the RC Insurance Broker team took on the iconic “EL5 Energy Trail”, demonstrating that the experience, resilience and reliability of our colleagues extend well beyond their professional responsibilities.
The Start: A Test of Endurance
The Murmansk trail is a very different challenge from running on smooth city streets. The unpaved roads of the Kola Wind Farm greeted participants with vast northern landscapes and strong headwinds. All that remained was to take their places at the start and prepare for a true test of endurance and character.
Our Heroes on the Course
Despite the challenging weather conditions, risk engineer Andrey Super delivered an outstanding performance, completing the 20 km course in 1 hour 30 minutes, setting a new personal best and finishing 32nd overall out of 161 runners. Alexander Chernyshov also demonstrated excellent form over the 20 km distance, crossing the finish line in 1 hour 46 minutes.
The broker’s women’s team also deserves special recognition, demonstrating both grace and determination in demanding conditions. Their performance was another reminder that a close-knit team does not shy away from challenges — it overcomes them and emerges even stronger.
Sport as a Metaphor for Business
The EL5 Energy Trail was more than just a race for us — it became a fitting metaphor for our work. Risk management, going the distance, having reliable support by your side and pacing yourself wisely all the way to the finish are principles we apply every day as we provide insurance protection for our partners.
